Are all orthodontists Board Certified?

No. All orthodontists are required to be licensed in order to practice their profession. However, it's important to note that not all orthodontists choose to pursue board certification, as it is a voluntary accomplishment.

For those who aim to become board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO), they undergo a thorough assessment of their orthodontic knowledge, clinical skills, and judgment. The certification process employs a meticulously designed methodology that is fair, reliable, and valid, guaranteeing an objective evaluation of their clinical proficiency.

Attaining ABO certification is truly an exceptional achievement, representing a significant milestone beyond the two to three years of advanced education required for a dentist to specialize in orthodontics. It demonstrates a deep commitment to excellence and distinguishes these orthodontists as leaders in their field.

Why did Dr. Kaz choose to complete this voluntary certification process?

The successful completion of the examination process truly showcases the Dr. Kaz's unwavering dedication to excellence in the field of orthodontics. It reflects his personal commitment not only to the orthodontic profession but also to the well-being of his patients. It serves as a shining example of his determination to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in patient care and his sincere desire to provide these cutting-edge treatments to his patients.

How many certifying boards are recognized by American Dental Association (ADA) for Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics?

One. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is the only certifying board in the specialty that is recognized by ADA's National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards (NCRDSCB) as the national certifying board for Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. The ABO was founded in 1929 and is the oldest specialty board in dentistry. The board’s purpose is to elevate the quality of orthodontic care for the public by promoting excellence through certification, education and professional collaboration.
